About Us
My name is Tammy Brahan, and I am the founder of The Yoga Room in Hattiesburg, MS. Because the teachings of yoga have meant so very much to me in all aspects of my life, it is an absolute privelage to have the opportunity to serve as a teacher and to share with you what I have learned from all of my teachers.
Having bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Nursing, and over 27 years of experience in the Fitness Industry, I feel that teaching yoga is the perfect culmination of all of my life experience. It is now a full time career for me.
In addition to the studio, in 2005, I began work at Pine Grove Behavioral Health Women’s Center teaching yoga and wellness principles to women in recovery from eating disorders and chemical dependency. I eventually developed the Yoga Therapy program at Pine Grove Gentle Path where I currently work with men and women in recovery from sex addiction. This has truly been a blessing in disguise and for that I am grateful.
I began studying and practicing yoga in 2001, and studied with many renowned yoga teachers around the country with the intention of exposing myself in as many ways as I could to different styles and different teachings within the practice. In 2004, I was introduced to Anusara yoga and was initially intrigued by the physical principles that seemed to make a difference in my postures and my alignment. Then came the philosophy behind all of it…to embrace the beauty within and all around, to “align with the Divine” , to “open to Grace”, to find the good in all things first, and the list goes on and on!! I had found the style of yoga that resonated with me on so many levels. The high standards in education that are required within this system are another huge attraction. I had found a home in Anusara yoga.
Over the last 7 years, I have studied with many certified Anusara teachers from around the country and with John Friend, the creator of Anusara yoga. I am a licensed Anusara-inspired yoga teacher and John has recently accepted my application for certification. I am certified with Yoga Alliance as an Experienced Yoga Teacher at the 500 level, and am a member of The International Association of Yoga Therapists.
Anusara Yoga is considered to be one of the most therapeutically effective and spiritually uplifting styles of yoga in the world today. For more information…..see www.anusara.com.
