Descriptions
Emphasizing the Universal
Principles of Alignment, as created by John Friend, all of my classes
are considered to be "Anusara-inspired."
Serenity
Yoga - this class is designed to release stress and center awareness
through gentle postures and relaxation exercises. Some strength building
postures will be incorporated. Recommended for those seeking a gentle
practice to create balance in the body, mind and spirit.
Vinyasa
Flow Yoga - integrates rythmic breathing with conscious movement.
This class is designed to increase strength and flexibility and by uniting
body and breath, the student will learn to move from moment to moment
with absolute awareness. As a meditation through motion, this practice
will also strengthen the power of the mind and open the heart.
Restorative
Yoga - using props, such as blankets, blocks and bolsters to support
the body, this class is designed to bring the student into a deeper sense
of relaxation and surrender. The combination of holding the poses for
several minutes and breathwork enable the student to rest quietly in the
present moment for total rejuvenation. Pranayama and Meditation are also
practiced.
Hot
Power Yoga - an Intermediate level, 90 minute class, beginning with
Ashtanga Stlye Sun Salutations. This class flows at a vigorous pace from
one series of poses to another, linking movement with breath. Recommended
for those who seek a challenging physical workout, as a means to release
stress and tension, and build confidence and vitality.
Yoga for Kids - The focus in this class is to enjoy yoga through play, in a non-competitive, yet athletic way. Students will practice breathing techniques, poses, games, activities, relaxation, and visualization. Yoga for Kids can instill positive traits such as confidence, compassion, respect, tolerance, patience, and non-violence. It will also develop body awareness, self-control, flexibility, and coordination. Yoga teaches children the meaning of union of mind, body, and spirit.
Meditation Class - This hour long class will include gentle stretches, pranayama (breathing exercises), guided meditation.
Guided meditation is simply the act of being quiet and shutting down your constant monologue that fills the inner space of your being. It is stopping the constant bombardment of thoughts and the seemingly endless chatter filling your inner world. The inner noise is a shield preventing you from knowing your highest self. During guided meditation, the mind is diverted from the scattered thoughts by visualization and sound, helping you feel connected to God, heal situations in your life and achieve peace of mind.
Private
Yoga Sessions - available by appointment. Recommended for beginners
who seek a detailed introduction to the practice of yoga, students with
special needs, and experienced students who seek to refine their practice.
Recommended for athletes who, from muscular imbalance and overuse,
have injuries or limitations in the areas of the neck, shoulders, lower
back, hips, knees and feet. I also offer private yoga therapy sessions
for students suffering from various symptoms of anxiety, depression, chronic
Pain, fibromyalgia, addiction or eating disorder recovery.
